Yes. Ahem. It’s always well and good to PICK an intellectual read. It’s the doing the reading that can be a bit bothersome. As with other nonfiction works, the author makes a great case in the prologue and then kills us with information and details re-making the case bit by bit, page after page.
And this is good stuff: the back stories of the two female Supremes. Two vastly different women with vastly different paths to the SCOTUS.
The author, a lawyer herself, presents us with a legal-like case for the two women and lots and lots and lots of legal cases, trials, presentations, summaries, maneuverings, etc. I like me some legal jargon every so often … and I’ll never go to law school for the joy it takes out of stories.
And there are good stories in here.
One of those books I’m happy to say I read, actually glad of the knowledge I gained, and would recommend for a book discussion with the caveat: it may be tough getting through it.
Book Chicks October 2016 pick
Fascinating and dull.
