While listening to Dr. Attia on Armchair Expert with Dax and Monica I knew I’d buy and read his book. At 59, it seems pertinent. Also, if you know me, you know I end up buying a lot of the books I hear about on respected podcasts. THEY. GET. ME. IT. WORKS. IDK, maybe in my 60’s I become a better library patron? It could happen.
Turns out, reading this book in your 30’s and 40’s and earlier 50’s would be even better than at the precipice of 60, and here we are. The Four Horsemen – the diseases/conditions that kill most people – are often detectable much earlier than our current medical philosophy would have you look for them. Knowing how to find and or avoid them until much later will give you better health span.
And what you can do to better your chances of living older and better – exercise, nutritional biochemistry, sleep, and emotional health – are kind of the basics, presented here with lots of data and a tactical approach. “In what way(s) should we be exercising? How are we going to improve our diet? How can we sleep longer and better?” (p. 212) My Pilates instructor heart beat a little faster when the first principle of exercise was stability. Yes!
Written with lots of personal and professional stories, it’s a good read.
Informative, direct, engaging.
