Wow does this novel meet the current political moment. The endorsements on the back seemed superfluous and were spot on – page turner, suspenseful, complex characters, lots of action.
Gang violence in Acapulco sends a mother and son on a survival journey toward the U.S. Along the harrowing sojourn they meet other humans fleeing their own nightmares.
One of the most important books I read this year.
[I discovered this gem in a free little library on my cottage road. I had planned to have one myself, and as an over-thinker I gathered books for a couple years, then looked at the library kits, looked some more, thought about how to install it, then debated: what size to get – a single shelf or a double shelf – should it go at the road side, on the north side of the steps, on the south side, should the door face the lake, would too much snow and rain get in, should I install it on the first landing, would people find it there, would it seem weird to walk up some steps to get it, should I paint the library with a beach scene or match the color of the cottage, how would I mount it, would my son-in-law help me, when would he be available for that….Meanwhile, not one, but two neighbors installed and filled their free little libraries.]
Five stars and highly recommend this book. [Zero stars for perfectionistic procrastination.]
