A few years ago a podcast discussion about meeting new people suggested asking people “What are you into?” instead of “What do you do?” If asked currently, I’d say: Elly Griffiths’ Ruth Galloway series.
Ruth’s a forensic archeologist university professor in Norwich, England. Slightly overweight, nearing 40, single, cat owner, and a bit of a loner, she gets called to help with a police matter and voilà! A crime fiction series is born.
Recommended by my cousin Betsy when I inquired what books she’s into lately, I’ve got six of these under my belt (all from Thriftbooks!!) and plan to read all the way through to number 15. The premise that so many murders and deaths can happen in a small area of England is a wee preposterous AND I’m down with this kind of quick, captivating, and comfortable string of stories. These types of series are a wee redundant as past events and characters are re-introduced AND it’s fun to return to familiar terrain and people.
Each book brings in elements of British history, contemporary issues, and worldview philosophies plus tea and pints. Although maybe each book would get a 3/5 for writing, overall I’m giving the lot 4/5 stars for the delight it’s brought me.

I LOVE reading your reviews! I can see this being a fun series to work my way thru this winter! It feels like you are getting more spoons in a day?? yes? I went 2 days in a row without a nap while visiting Will and Kayla in Traverse City! Yeah for more spoons!love ya, Kathy
