File this under ‘books with misaligned expectations.’ I think it was Ann Patchett I heard describe this book as funny. Not. At. All. Not even mildly humorous. It’s buzzy! As in Flight of the Bumblebee.

A family of four in current-ish Ireland tell their part of the novel in their unique voices. The literary structure creates the energy and the substance of the plot draws the reader in deeper and deeper.

I was fortunate to read this in two days on vacay and fully experience the frenetic plot. Upon finishing I handed to hubby and asked him to read so we could discuss; he read nearly as quickly and we had lots to say. Still thinking about this one.

When you’ve read, let’s chat.

Dizzying. Deft. Devastating. Four and half stars.
