On the theme of vacation reads – see grandchild #1 on the beach in Punta Cana and next two posts – here’s another entry and a little something off-beat.

Simple structure: Jane visits a psychiatrist, psychiatrist takes notes, Jane keeps a diary, the reader is privy to both. As the psychiatrist probes deeper and gets more involved, it’s hard to know who and what is reality based.

Always feels like a ding ding ding when the first and last lines connect.

Do not miss Ms. Walker’s other books, The Age of Miracles and The Dreamers. She is queen of the off-beat, slightly off-kilter.

Mind-bending. Twilight zone-ish. 4 stars.
