my take: i laughed out loud almost every night while reading, which jeff finds annoying. it’s nice to be i’m-reading-a-funny-book annoying. if you’ve read mark haddon’s other novel,
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, you will find this nothing like it, but equally as good. i found it to be a quirky
seinfeld episode mixed with an uncomfortable
office episode. the main character discovers a spot of bother, and against medical evidence, decides it is cancer. his antics to try to ignore it and get rid of it are hilarious. the rest of his family are too busy making muck of their relationships to notice his actions. all looking for love in their own befuddled way. and aren’t we all?
my source: anne – she owns it, if you want to borrow
recommend to: anyone ready for a chuckle
rating: B+
genre: contemporary British
