my take: A bit of a cross between Olive Kitteridge and Emily, Alone, Florence is a somewhat crotchety feminist whose time in the lime light has come and mostly gone. Her abrasive personality has repelled most family members. In this tale of her fading fame, she and her family are thrown together for a summer in New York City.

The chapters flip between characters and some are just a page making it a quick read. It might be interesting to read this and Being Mortal together.

my verdict: excellent read – and make sure you’ve read Olive and Emily
