Well, this is maybe a little fluffier than I regularly read, but I asked Daughter for a fun read…and she had this in an actual book.
At first, I thought it felt like cotton candy – you really can’t eat too much of it. And then, I totally succumbed to the genre and stayed up late to finish the last bit.
The premise is a 30-something woman who’s obsessed with rom com stories and is waiting for her own. The plot line is as obvious as a Hallmark movie, it reads like a Hallmark movie. I can’t say I’m a fan of the Hallmark movie, but now I’ve got a hankering to watch rom coms. I dare you to read this and not want to watch Sleepless in Seattle, When Harry Met Sally, You’ve Got Mail, or While You Were Sleeping.
I think maybe Tom Hanks can play the director in the movie. I’ve got an idea for a Meg Ryan cameo. But who to play their younger, newer, texting selves?
3/5 stars just so you’ll trust me … and if you need total escapist Covid reading, maybe give it a go.
It is a bit fluffy for sure, but I’m finding romance/rom-com reads like this to be quite comforting in this time, because in order to be in the genre, they have to follow a formula. And unlike real life (see your last book review post!), they always have happy endings. A nice break from reality.
