If one were to judge books by their covers, this is possibly one to skim over and reject. So pastel, so old-fashioned looking! Move along. And then one would miss the delight of this Regency era mystery and adventure with the Colebrook twin sisters, Julia and Augusta.

Followers of this humble blog may well remember my fondness for THE REGENCY ERA literature. (Click those words below to see other such posts)

This is a fun, witty, and cleverly plotted mild mystery/historical fiction set in the time when manners and demure qualities suit society and unmarried women of a certain age (over 40!) are dismissed. I love the interjection of feminist ideals into the era; one can guess if beloved Jane were alive today she’d courtesy and nod her approval.

As soon as I finished The Benevolent Society of Ill-Mannered Ladies I wanted another installment. Reader, it arrived last week in the mail (The Ladies Road Guide to Utter Ruin) and has been similarly devoured and now I await the third adventure of the ladies.

With many thanks to bestie who brought it on our travels and let me take it home.

Feel good female fiction! Five stars.
