A friend from jr. high, Hinsdale Jr. High to be exact, contacted me recently to see if she could stop by on her drive the length of Michigan. Well, YES! Reader, after 48 years we had an instant re-connection and a delightful four hours of catching up.

And then I started reading Whistler where a long ago relationship is rekindled after a chance encounter. The universe giving me a sly grin, a little wink, a friendly nod.

This tale is marvelously told and everything you want from an Ann Patchett novel.

Some people, even if you’ve known them only a short while, are true gems. Loved seeing my friend Kristin after lo, these many years and loved loved loved this book.
