When the leader of the Humpty Dumpty Club takes a tumble down the stairs, the four core members must take care of the elderly group. Through each of the women we get to see different aspects of aging – living alone, caring for a home-bound partner, navigating old emotional wounds, dealing with adult children and grandchildren AND trying new activities, learning to accept and love others as they are, finding friendship, the comfort of traditions.
Stewart O’Nan has a gift for writing from a woman’s perspective and is writing about women way beyond his own years.
Quiet, character driven, kindly. 4.5 stars.
