my take: As a doctor’s wife I was curious about this book … it’s very small … actually more of a short story told in vignettes … each one a little gem.
The opening lines: “It’s after lunch, and the Doctor’s Wife has given Ann and her siblings two packets of saltine crackers each and told them to play hard until she calls them for dinner.”
I know this woman, I know this childhood. And much of the book felt like a walk through childhood. And marriage. And parenting. And family. Very well done.
If i ever write a book, this might be my format.
my source: Oprah’s suggested reads … although I’m sure Oprah herself has very little to do with the list her minions put out … they know their stuff
my verdict: excellent little read
