While certainly not the only way to read Circe, being in Greece at the seaside on a lounge chair with drink service was a great way to dig into Greek mythology. A) I wished I’d read the Odyssey before reading this (or maybe better: a graphic novel!) and B) I wish I had a family tree chart of the Greek gods. So many things to discuss as pertains to the role of women, war, desire, dominance, family relationships, Fate, origin stories, and more. Really, all the things. Highly recommend. 4/5 stars.

She still has a spell over me. And score one for high school Latin / intro to world lit – discovered a lot in the recesses of my brain from the mythology translations and Odyssey readings there. Also at least my copy of the book got to experience the Greek Isles in person…
